Job Description

COMPENSATION: $15.00/hour *Please note that the hourly rate of pay is inclusive of the mandatory 4.5% retirement contribution to the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF).

UNION MEMBERSHIP:This position is represented by the Oswego Transportation Association (OTA).

Qualifications

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions.
  • Ability to work independently, with a minimum of supervision and utilizing good time management skills.
  • Ability to use a hand-held stop sign, flashlight, two-way radio.
  • Stamina to stand for long periods of time, mobility to escort pedestrians across streets.
  • Ability to work out of doors in all weather conditions and with exposure to traffic.
  • Adequate vision to read printed materials and license plates, and hearing and speech to communicate in person.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a high degree of visibility in assigned areas
  • Assist school-age children to cross public streets safely by directing and/or regulating vehicular and pedestrian traffic at specified intersections
  • Watch for suspicious persons and/or vehicles that may prey upon young children
  • Provides a safe adult presence that young children may go to when they need assistance while going to and from school
  • Monitor and report any unusual or strange behavior or events to the security team/supervisors

It serves the communities of Montgomery, Plainfield, Oswego, and nearby unincorporated areas of Kane County. The district is located in the center of the Fox Valley, approximately fifty miles west of downtown Chicago and fifteen miles west of Aurora, Illinois. As of 2018, the district serves over 14,700 students from preschool through twelfth grade, making it the 11th largest school district in the state. The district consists of 19 elementary schools, five middle schools, four high schools, and three alternative schools. Along with providing education, the district also offers many extracurricular activities, such as clubs, athletics, music programs, and visual arts.
